Some things are worth the risk.

My mother received this waffle iron as a wedding gift in 1959. For fifty years it made the most extraordinary waffles — golden, crisp, perfect — the kind you can't replicate with anything made after 1975. I finally had to let it go when the cord started sparking at the plug.

I kept using it longer than I should have. The waffles were that good.

This painting is for that waffle iron. For my mother. For every Sunday morning that smelled like butter and possibility. Painted in rich, textured oils, piled high with strawberries, bananas, and whipped cream — because if you're going to memorialize a waffle, you do it right.
