There was always jello.

Growing up, my mom made an endless array of jellos. Red, pink, orange, lime — molded into perfect domes, wobbling on the plate like they had somewhere important to be. I ate a LOT of jello.

This one is the classic. Deep crimson, ridged and proud, glowing against a warm pink background like it knows exactly what it is: a childhood in a mold.

Red Jello is painted in rich, textured impasto oils — the brushstrokes catching the light the way jello catches everything, translucent and luminous and a little bit magical.

For the ones who still feel something when they see a perfectly unmolded jello. For the ones whose moms made it look easy.
